Buffalo Bill Day, November 1
The Society is hosting a Buffalo Bill Day, Sunday, November 1, from 1:30-5:00 p.m. at the Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln. The schedule of activities includes two categories, Speakers & Entertainers, and Hands-on Activities, Contests, and Fun Prizes. The following schedule provides further information.
Speakers & Entertainers
1:30-2:30: Slide Lecture,
"Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show," by Tom Morrison, superintendent, Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, North Platte.2:30-3:30: Smith Family Band,
Hastings, Nebraska, will provide Western music with traditional instruments and stories.3:30-4:30: Joan Wells,
former women's world champion trick roper, will entertain with her trick and fancy roping performance.
Hands-on Activities, Contests, and Fun Prizes
1:30-2:00: Stick pony races and lasso contest
1:30-2:30: Buffalo Bill look-alike contest (judging starts at 2:30)
2:00-5:00: Design your own Wild West poster
3:30-4:30: Family tours of the temporary exhibit, Buffalo Bill's Wild West

Museum Store Appreciation & Discount Day
To show our appreciation to volunteers and staff, the Nebraska State Historical Society has designated Tuesday, December 1, as "Appreciation Day." Volunteers and staff will receive twenty-five percent off museum store purchases. This is a great time to make holiday purchases, or to just remember yourself.
Purchases may be made at any of our museum stores including the Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln, Fort Robinson Museum; Chimney Rock National Historic Site; Senator George W. Norris State Historic Site in McCook; and Neligh Mill State Historic Site.
This is our way of saying thank you for the dedicated service provided by volunteers and staff. Your continued support allows the Nebraska State Historical Society to fulfill its mission of safeguarding and interpreting Nebraska's past.
November Volunteer Programming
All Nebraska State Historical Society volunteers are invited to attend the Tuesday, November 10, 1998, volunteer programming at the Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln. The November program will begin with docent training at 9:30, provided by Society archeologist Rob Bozell about the "NSHS Volunteer Archeology Dig at Fort Robinson." At 11:00 Curator Paul Eisloeffel will talk to volunteers about "Film in Nebraska." Volunteers are encouraged to stay for a potluck luncheon at noon.

Falter Exhibit to Open
The exhibition, Illustrating the Blues: John Falter's Jazz Portraits, opens January 7 and runs through December 31, 1999, at the Museum of Nebraska History, 15th & P Streets, Lincoln.
John Falter was born in Plattsmouth in 1910, and raised in Falls City. He became one of America's most famous illustrators, best known for his cover illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post. Falter made the jazz drawings, as seen in the upcoming exhibition, during the 1971 Colorado Jazz Party held at the Broadmoor Hotel near Colorado Springs. A musician himself, Falter captured the essence of jazz performance in these drawings of such greats as Pee Wee Erwin (who was Falter's childhood friend).

Kennard House Happenings
The Thomas P. Kennard House, 1627 H, Lincoln, will celebrate Victorian Holidays Past, featuring Victorian toys and decorations from Saturday, November 28 - Thursday, December 31. The house will be open 9:00 - 12:00; 1:00 -4:30 Tuesday - Saturday. There will be an open house Sunday, December 13, from 1:00 - 5:00 with free admission that afternoon. Volunteers are needed to decorate the house on Wednesday, November 25, from 9:00 -12:00. There is also a need for volunteers to help at the open house on December 13. Board of Trustees News
Individuals recently elected to the Nebraska State Historical Society Board of Trustees for a three-year term include: Janyce Falcon Hunt of Blair, reelected to her second term from the first congressional district; James Denney of Omaha, elected to his first term on the board from the second district; and Dr. Helen Stauffer of Kearney, elected to her first term from the third congressional district.
In 1999 the board will meet in January and March in Lincoln, in June at the Chimney Rock National Historic Site near Bayard, and in September in conjunction with the Society's history conference in Norfolk.
