The following is a general reference guide to terms used in the years and notes or call number/location fields in this database. NSHS staff will need to be contacted regarding any other terms not listed:
- NSNP (Nebraska State Newspaper Project) - Term used to describe a volunteer project coordinated in the 1980s by NSHS to index and computerize indexing of Nebraska newspapers. Today this index is part of the NEGenWeb Project with over 160,000 entries. Any reference to NSNP means that the indexing is available as part of this large database at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nenews/NSHS/nshsnews.htm. This database includes scattered indexing of material from areas across the state, so it is a good source to check even if you do not find your community listed in LANNI.
- Abstract Forms - Indexing may still be available in paper form, has not been computerized, and may not be easily located.
- Card Format - Usually means that the index is on catalog cards as part of the Library/Archives collection at NSHS.
- NSGS Newspaper Abstracts - Refers mainly to published indexing prepared by the Nebraska State Genealogical Society.
