HISTORICAL NOTE

On June 15, 1875, a meeting was held in Friend, Nebraska, under the guidance of the Rev. B.G. Page for the purpose of establishing a Congregational Church. Following its construction the First Church was dedicated in 1880. In 1900, plans were made for the construction of the present building which was dedicated on September 21, 1902.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of four reels of microfilm containing 17 volumes of records of the First Congregational Church of Friend, Nebraska, and its related Women's Societies. Also included are miscellaneous church bulletins, programs, etc. The first six volumes relate to church activities, 1875-1952, and include minutes of church meetings, records of members, pastors, officers, marriages, baptisms and deaths. The next eight volumes relate to the activities of the Women's Missionary Society, the Dorcas Federated Missionary Society, and the Women's Fellowship.

Material added to this collection in 1969 is on reel 3 and material added in 1970 is on reel 4. Reel 3 consists of one volume of minutes of the church board, council, and annual meetings, 1952-1960. These also provide financial information about the church. Reel 4 contains two volumes. Volume 16 is the guest register from the church's 75th Anniversary, 1950. Volume 17 is a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, church bulletins, histories, programs, and other miscellaneous items. Additional church bulletins, programs, etc. are included on Reel 4.
