BACKGROUND NOTE

The Methodist Church of Trenton, Nebraska, held its first Quarterly Conference on December 4, 1887. At first the Methodists shared a building with the Congregational Church, but on October 4, 1888, they laid the cornerstone for a church building of their own. Until 1908, Trenton was served by a pastor who also rode circuit in the surrounding territory. In that year the congregation at Trenton became an independent station. An increasing membership required a new and larger church which was dedicated in 1926.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

These records of the Trenton, Nebraska, United Methodist Church consist of eight volumes arranged in four series: 1) Registers, 1950-1976; 2) Minutes of the Board of Trustees, 1905-1913; 3) Quarterly Conference Record, 1887-1892; and 4) Record of the Ladies' Aid Society, 1888-1927.
