SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of the handwritten diary (and typescript) kept by Eliphalet Crandall dating from 1859, Feb. 5 - Aug. 19. The first part of the diary describes his daily life in Iowa (no town is mentioned). On March 31, 1859, Crandall begins an overland journey to California. He writes about his stops along the way, including various places throughout Nebraska Territory. Various names of people and references to place names are mentioned.
