This collection relates to Laura Roper Soper Vance's family and to her capture during an 1864 Indian raid in Nuckolls County, Nebraska. The manuscript portion consists of correspondence and reminiscences. The photo component of the collection [RG1507.PH] consists of photographic prints, 1864-1920s; mostly 1920s. The photographs relate primarily to Laura Roper Soper Vance's abduction during Indian raids of 1864 in Nuckolls County, Nebraska. Included are photographs of Vance and other captive children who were released to U.S. soldiers in Denver. Many of the photographs show the site of the raid, as pointed out by Vance in the 1920s.
