Mary A. Peale Johnson was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1868, then lived her first 18 years in North Platte. Following her marriage to Arthur Mason Johnson, the couple made their home in Curtis, Franklin County, Nebraska. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Charles Wilson Peale, colonial painter.


This collection relates to the early history of North Platte, Nebraska, and is arranged in three Series: 1) Manuscripts, 1909, n.d.; 2) Scrapbooks, ca. 1880s-1940s; and 3) Miscellaneous. One manuscript describes the presentation of a peace pipe by Sitting Bull to Franklin Peale.
