SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection contains the reminiscences of William J. Kennedy. He writes about steamboating on the lower and upper Missouri River from 1842-ca. 1870. Kennedy mentions ships' names and how they were named, the ships' captain's names, the working history of the ships, and ship accidents. He describes the port city of St. Louis, Missouri, during this time period. He also writes about the causes of the demise of Missouri River navigation.
