The modern Order of Knights Templar is a Masonic organization in the York Rite of Freemasonry. The Knights Templar is a Christian-oriented fraternal organization whose main activities involve fund-raising for the support of Masonic-related youth organizations and other charities.
The Red Cloud (Neb.) chapter of Knights Templar was organized on January 23, 1874, with A. Maxwell as Grand Worth Chief Templar. The Red Cloud chapter was designated as Cyrene Commandery #14. Other Freemason organizations were begun in Red Cloud around this time as well.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of a treasurer's book dating from 1901-1919 and one folder containing convention material dating from 1913-1914. These materials relate to the activities of the Red Cloud (Neb.) Commandery of the Knights Templar.
The treasurer's book, 1901-1919, records dues paid and money received by the Cyrene Commandery of the Knights Templar, Red Cloud, Nebraska. Dates, amounts paid, and some names of members are shown. A list of officers is included on the first page. The folder of convention material, 1913-1914, includes a contract for hotel reservations in Denver, Colorado, for a "triennial conclave" of the Knights Templar, as well as correspondence and a reservation journal pertaining to this meeting.
