BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

William McKinley was elected to the presidency in 1896 and 1900. During a visit to Buffalo, New York, he was shot. He died from the gunshot wound on September 14, 1901.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of a McKinley campaign sticker, ca. 1900; programs for memorial services held for President McKinley in Lincoln, Syracuse, and Kearney, Nebraska, 1901; and a written order for all Burlington trains to stop from 2:00-2:05 on September 19, 1901 out of respect for President McKinley.
