 Loan of Photographs

Microfiche

In the 1980s, the Nebraska State Historical Society worked on a collaborative project with the Kansas State Historical Society to create a visual catalog of our most significant collections of historic photographs. The project, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, resulted in high quality tonal microfiche of more than 100,000 images.

Subject matter represented is as broad and varied as the history of the Great Plains: emigration, homesteading, Native Americans, towns, industries, agriculture, events, political figures, and prominent people.

Users may either borrow or purchase copies of the fiche. Loan fees for the photograph microfiche are found in the Fee Schedule (pdf). To see what photograph collections are on fiche go to the List of Photograph Collections.

Microfiche may be kept for two weeks.

VHS Video Tapes

A few photograph collections are available on VHS video tape. These include many of our photographs of the first Nebraskans, the Native Americans, as well as a select few from other subject areas.

The photographs of Native Americans are together on a set of four VHS video tapes. A printed catalog that helps guide the user through the videos accompanies the videos.

All VHS video tapes are available to loan.

Videos may be kept for one month.
