Sally Dittmar

Sally Dittmar

Scottsbluff, Nebraska, native Sally Briones Dittmar learned her traditional dressmaking skills from her mother when she was six or seven years old. She practiced by making clothes for her dolls. She continues this tradition by making dance costumes and wedding dresses for the Mexican American community in Scottsbluff. As a child she learned traditional Mexican dance from her father who, before he died, asked her to teach the dances to others for "the good of the cause." She honored his wishes for thirty-eight years, teaching several generations of Scottsbluff children Mexican dance through the Mexican Cultural Development Group.
