Position Title: Collections Assistant / Deaccessioning
Date: 3-22-06
Division: Museum of Nebraska History
Supervisor: Laura Mooney / Deb Arenz

Duties / Responsibilities: Intern will be researching provenance, general historical significance, and title of items slated for possible deaccessioning. Some completion of forms and data entry may be required.

Qualifications:

Required: Must have completed college level coursework in Museum Studies, history, or related field, and be pursuing a career in the museum field.

Desired: Prior experience working in a museum collections department and familiarity with Past Perfect museum software.

Hours per week: Minimum 10, Maximum 40
Days preferred: M-F 8am-5pm

Semesters Available: Summer, Fall

Number of interns per semester: 2

What can the student expect to learn from the internship? The deaccessioning process in a history museum, research skills in a museum setting, Past Perfect collections management software

What special equipment will be available to the intern? Office Equipment, Computer

What type of training will be provided by the Society? Training to use Past Perfect computer software, basic research skills involved with the deaccessioning process.

Compensation: Unpaid

Credit hours: Negotiable
