Position Title: Collections Assistant / Documentary Artifacts II
Date: 6/2/2009
Division: Nebraska History Museum
Supervisor: Laura Mooney / Deb Arenz

Duties / Responsibilities: Intern will be completing an inventory of, re-housing, and completing data entry for, the museum's collection of documentary artifacts.

Qualifications:

Required: Must have completed college level coursework in Museum Studies, history, or related field, and be pursuing a career in the museum field.

Desired: Prior experience working in a museum collections department with documentary artifacts; graduate level coursework in collections care; familiarity with Past Perfect museum software.

Hours per week: Minimum 10, Maximum 28
Days preferred: M-F, 9am-4:30pm

Semesters Available: Spring, Fall

Number of interns per semester: 1

What can the student expect to learn from the internship? Preservation techniques for documentary artifacts, research skills in a museum setting, Past Perfect collections management software

What special equipment will be available to the intern? Materials needed for documentary artifact preservation, computer

What type of training will be provided by the Society? Training to use Past Perfect computer software, preservation techniques for documentary artifacts, museum collections inventory techniques

Compensation: Unpaid

Credit hours: Negotiable
