Chimney Rock, near Bayard in western Morrill County, is a well-known symbol of Nebraska. It was an important landmark for pioneers on the Oregon-California and Mormon Trails and is mentioned in nearly all of their travel diaries. Chimney Rock is a National Historic Site. The Chimney Rock Visitor Center is operated by the Nebraska State Historical Society and is open year round.
