
Low-resolution scans may be sent for review, either on CDs or as e-mail attachments (e-mail attachments may not exceed 5 megabytes per message). Original images, first-generation high-resolution photo prints, or high-resolution scans (TIF format) will be required for publication.
Send all scans, whether low or high resolution, as they come from the scanner and with no Photoshop (or comparable software) manipulation.
- Flatwork (photos prints, artwork, other opaque originals)
Low Resolution Scans:- From originals 4 X 5 inches or larger: Scan at 100 percent, JPG format, 100 or 72 dpi.
- From originals smaller than 4 X 5 inches: Scan at 200 percent JPG format, 100 or 72 dpi.
- High Resolution Scans:
- Scan from original negatives or plates if possible. If negatives are not available, scan from first generation prints if possible.
- From originals 4 X 5 inches or larger: Scan at 100 percent, TIF format, 800 dpi
- From originals smaller than 4 X 5 inches: Scan at 100 percent, TIF format, 1,200 dpi
- It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission from the copyright holder to reproduce images.
- Permission forms should accompany any final scans or originals sent for reproduction.

Low Resolution Scans:- From originals at least 2.25 inches in one dimension or larger: Scan at 100 percent, JPG format, 100 dpi
- From originals smaller than 2.25 inches in one dimension: Scan at 100 percent, JPG format, 400 dpi
- High Resolution Scans:
- From originals at least 2.25 inches in one dimension or larger: Scan at 100 percent, TIF format files, 1,200 dpi
- From originals smaller than 2.25 inches in one dimension: Scan at 100 percent, TIF format files 2,400 or 3200 dpi
