Christ Due was born in Errindlev Lolland, Denmark, March 3, 1852. In April of 1873 at the age of 21, he immigrated to America, but later returned to Denmark, where he remained for several years. Due returned to the United States in 1880 and in 1882 came to Friend, Nebraska. Due and his brother purchased a farm near the present town of Cordova, and later moved to a farm north of Exeter. On December 11, 1889 Christ Due was married to Martha Madsen who had come from Denmark earlier that year. The Dues were to be the parents of ten children, one of whom preceded them in death. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on December 11, 1939, at their home in Exeter. Martha Due preceded her husband in death on March 14, 1944, and Christ Due died on March 20, 1946, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Thompson.


This collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing the diary of Christ Due, 1873-1888. The diary relates to Due's immigration to the United States in 1873, his early experiences in this country, and to his subsequent return to Denmark in 1874. Later entries relate to his arrival in Friend, Nebraska, the purchase of his first farm, and include his crop records, 1882-1888.
