Edward P. McCormick

RG1202.AM:  Edward P. McCormick

Reminiscence:  1900
Oakdale, Antelope County, Neb.: Newspaper editor/publisher
Size:  1 folder

The collection consists of a handwritten reminiscence (and two typescripts) entitled, "An Illiad of the Pioneer Press and an Aeneid of the Pioneers of Nebraska by Edward P. McCormick, editor and publisher of the Old Pen and Plow of Oakdale, Nebraska; Coter Creek, Arizona, March 21, 1900." McCormick relates the history of the newspaper from 1877-1891. He particularly notes the fight between Neligh (Neb.) and Oakdale (Neb.) over which would be the county seat for Antelope County, Nebraska, and the vying between Oakdale and Neligh over the location of a congregational college. He mentions Neligh's Gates College and Oakdale's Seminary. McCormick also writes about the Neligh Advocate, published by Judson Graves, and of the purpose of newspaper editors and their place in the community and politics.
