Warren McLaughlin served as 1st Lt. in the Quartermasters Corps of the 1st Nebraska Infantry. He entered the service with Company C from Beatrice, Nebraska. As an officer, McLaughlin was closely associated with Col. John M. Stotsenberg, Commander of the 1st Nebraska during much of its service in the Philippines.


This collection consists of one box of manuscript material arranged in three series: 1) Correspondence, 1898-1906; 2) Maps; and 3) Miscellaneous. The collection relates to Lt. Warren McLaughlin's military service with the 1st Nebraska Regiment in the Philippines, 1898-1899. The bulk of this collection consists of letters written by Warren McLaughlin to his parents. The letters provide a description of battles of the 1st Nebraska Regiment, life in the Philippines, and McLaughlin's reflections on Col. John Stotsenberg, Commander of the regiment, who was killed at the battle of Quenqua in April of 1899. Also included are two hand-drawn maps and Christmas dinner menus regarding McLaughlin's experiences in military service.
