Mapping the History of Our School: District 83: Abstract

photo of District 83 students Many rural areas are experiencing a decline in population and as a result, school districts are forced to consolidate. The following classroom experience will provide opportunities for students to learn about the history of their school district as they read historic maps and investigate county records. Using this background history, students will plot a new township plat map illustrating the original districts and the new consolidated district. From this, students will be able to draw conclusions about how consolidation directly affects them. This project could be expanded through oral interviews with community elders.
