MARI SANDOZ, 1896-1966
Sandoz was a novelist, biographer, historian, lecturer, teacher, and friend of the Indian. One of Nebraska's foremost writers about pioneer life and Indians, she was renowned for the meticulous research done for each of her books. Her command of Plains Indian history enabled her to write historical fiction with grit and realism. Her finest biography may be Crazy Horse: Strange Man of the Oglalas (1942), which she crafted from the Lakota point of view.
